Carl Lawson’s six weeks with the Baltimore Ravens resulted in one appearance for the Auburn standout. The Ravens signed Lawson for their practice squad on Oct. 24 and released the pass-rusher on Tuesday.
Baltimore used the spot on the practice squad opened by Lawson’s release to sign Laken Tomlinson. A Pro Bowl selection in 2021, Tomlinson started seven of the first eight games of this season at left guard for the Houston Texans before being released.
Tomlinson comes aboard with Ravens reserve guard Ben Cleveland set to serve a three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Policy on Substances of Abuse.
In his only action this season, Lawson was on the field for 26 defensive snaps and two special-teams plays during Baltimore’s 32-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Thanksgiving night.
During the 2024 season, Lawson had five sacks and 15 quarterback hits while playing 401 defensive snaps in 15 games, with three starts for the Dallas Cowboys. He had been an unrestricted free agent since March 12 when he signed with the Ravens.

Lawson began his NFL career when the Bengals selected him from Auburn in the fourth round of the 2017 draft.
That season, Lawson led the NFL’s first-year players with 8.5 sacks and made the Professional Football Writers of America’s All-Rookie team. Over the next two seasons, Lawson missed 13 games with injuries and totaled six sacks.
In his fourth season, Lawson recorded 5.5 sacks and ranked second in the NFL with 32 quarterback hits in 2020.
That landed Lawson a three-year, $45 million contract with the New York Jets as an unrestricted free agent. But before he played a game for New York, Lawson suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a joint training-camp practice with the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 19, and the injury sidelined him for the 2021 NFL season.
In 2022, Lawson started every game for the Jets and recorded seven sacks and 24 quarterback hits.
But in 2023, Lawson hardly played. He appeared for 101 defensive snaps in six games with New York and began the next season on Dallas’ practice squad before being promoted.
