Drake Maye made his thoughts clear about facing Josh Allen for the second time in the 2025 NFL season. The New England Patriots made a statement in Week 5, when they upset the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium to start their ongoing 10-game winning streak.
Maye and Co. secured a 23-20 win that kick-started a revolution in the AFC East division. New England (11-2) lead the division and a win on Sunday will sweep the regular-season matchup against the Bills and give them the division title.

“It’s a little different when you’re playing the MVP,” Maye said, per Carlos Lopez on X. “One of the best players in the league… Shoot, I hate to say it, but he’s fun to watch when he’s playing. Big fan of him off the field… He’s been great to me.”

Allen has shared his admiration for Maye during the offseason, praising the former UNC quarterback’s mindset.
“I think Drake is super talented, he’s one of my favorite young quarterbacks in the league,” Allen Sports Illustrated’s Liam McKeone. “I’ve spent some time around him and he’s got his head on his shoulders the right way. He just does things the right way. I think that he exemplifies football.”
Drake Maye went 22 of 30 for 273 yards in the Week 5 duel, while Allen went 22 of 31 for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Their second matchup of the season has everything to be memorable, more so considering everything that is at stake.
Mike Vrabel compares Drake Maye and Josh Allen
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel is well aware of the importance of Sunday’s game. He labeled the matchup a “championship” game while praising both Drake Maye and Josh Allen.
“They’re both really good at what they do,” Vrabel told reporters on Monday. “Josh has probably got a couple (pounds) on him, and can probably throw his shoulder in there, probably a little more than I’d want Drake to. But I think they’re both great competitors. A lot of respect for Josh.”
The Patriots can clinch their first AFC East title since 2019, and Maye can add to his MVP case with another win over Allen.
