NFL Overreactions: Daniel Jones tears Achilles, Texans beat Chiefs

USA TODAY Sports’ Prince Grimes ‘overreacts’ to some of the best games from Sunday’s Week 14 slate.

Now that the playoff chase portion of their season is mostly over, the Dallas Cowboys are starting to get a little healthier.

The big name who will be on the injury report this week is receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is doing better as he endures concussion protocol. Tackle Tyler Guyton also seems to be trending toward playing Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings. The bad news for Dallas is that Cowboys killer Aaron Jones also looks to be healthy and ready for another go at his favorite childhood team.

As for Trevon Diggs, he is set to return to practice, which will help determine his availability. Here is what Dallas is doing.

CeeDee Lamb injury report

The news continues to be encouraging as star receiver CeeDee Lamb goes through concussion protocol following his injury sustained Thursday against Detroit.

He’s doing good,” coach Brian Schottenheimer said, via the team website. “Talked to him over the weekend. He’s progressing nicely, and hopefully things work out like we expect.”

The extra days Dallas gets coming off a Thursday game will help. At this point he rates as questionable for the Minnesota game.

Tyler Guyton injury update

Dallas offensive tackle Tyler Guyton, their No. 1 pick last year, injured his ankle in the Week 12 win over Philadelphia and is close to returning.

Jerry Jones said Friday on his radio show that the he’s optimistic Guyton will play against Minnesota.

“My thoughts are that he’ll be available,” Jones said. “That’s Dr. Jones (talking), and I know how you need to take that information. But the bottom line is my opinion is he’ll be there.”

Schottenheimer was less rosy when asked about Guyton and defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

“We will find out a little bit more over the next two days, 48 hours,” Schottenheimer said of their availability for Sunday Night Football.

Trevon Diggs Dallas Cowboys

Dallas’ cornerback Trevon Diggs, who has missed much of this season after suffering a concussion in his home, is set to return to full practice this week and how that goes will determine his availability for Sunday night’s game with Minnesota.

”I know who I am, I know what I can do on the field. I’m going to put that out there, I’m going to show them,” Diggs told the team’s website recently.

Dallas Cowboys next game

The Cowboys face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. The 6:20 p.m. MT/7:20 p.m. kickoff will be televised on NBC.

Javonte Williams stats

Dallas running back Javonte Williams hit a milestone against Detroit, as he went over 1,000 yards for the first time in his five-year career. He now has 1,022 yards on 215 rushes with nine touchdowns. He also has 33 receptions this year for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

The previous best year of his career was his rookie year of 2021 when he had 903 rushing yards for the Denver Broncos.

Aaron Jones injury update

Minnesota Vikings tailback Aaron Jones, a UTEP alum, has dealt with some injuries this year, most recently with a hamstring, but is healthy now. He had 14 rushes for 76 yards in the Vikings 31-0 win over Minnesota.

Jones has historically lit up his favorite childhood team, as he has 488 yards on 83 carries across four games against the Cowboys.

Jake Ferguson kettle jump

The NFL finally got around to assessing fines for Dallas’ Thanksgiving Day win against Kansas City, and a big surprise is that tight end Jake Ferguson wasn’t given one. After an apparent touchdown that was later overturned on review, Ferguson did the now somewhat traditional leap into the Salvation Army kettle.

In a departure from this tradition, the NFL didn’t give him a fine. The big kettle is considered a prop and props are illegal to use in celebrations.

In other news from the game,

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco was fined $46,371 for illegal helmet use on Cowboys CB DaRon Bland, while Cowboys DB Markquese Bell was fined $11,593 for a facemask. Neither play was flagged at the time.
