Good morning Gang Green Nation!
The New York Jets signed Jonathan Kingsley to the practice squad recently. Kingsley is a 6’ 4”, 260 pound defensive end. He was in Jets camp last summer. Kingsley will turn 28 years old in the offseason. He has been in the NFL since 2022 and he has never amassed more than five tackles in any season. He has never recorded a sack in the NFL. All of which begs the question, why? On a rebuilding Jets team that is undergoing a major youth movement, why sign a soon to be 28 year old fringe player with no upside?

The Jets obviously have much bigger issues than this. Nonetheless, it speaks of a flawed process. There is no benefit to signing a player like this at this point in the season. The practice squad should be used for player development, particularly when a team is not in playoff contention. This player has zero potential to develop into a useful piece for the Jets. In the scheme of things, the Jets have much bigger issues than this. But moves like this make you question whether there is a coherent big picture plan for this Jets team.
