Former NFL star Antonio Brown says he was ‘temporarily detained’ after Miami brawl

MIAMI – Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown, who has a history of run-ins with the law, disputed reports that he was arrested again overnight Saturday in his native South Florida.

Brown, 38, said Miami police detained ― but didn’t arrest ― him after a brawl at a boxing event at a warehouse in the city’s Little Haiti neighborhood.

Police said they had received a ShotSpotter alert at around 3 a.m. at Northeast Second Avenue and 67th Street.

Miami police confirmed that their officers made no arrests.

“They initiated an investigation, which included canvassing the area and interviewing several individuals,” Officer Kiara Delva, a Miami Police Department spokesperson, said in an email to Local 10 News Saturday morning. “No arrests were made and no injured persons were located in connection with the call.”

She added, “The investigation continues.”

The seven-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl champion and Miami Norland Senior High School graduate, who retired from pro football after last playing in 2021, posted to social media platform X that he was ”jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.”

“Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me,” he said. “I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

He added, “I will be talking to my legal council (sic) and attorneys on pressing charges on the individuals that jumped me.

People who recorded the fight said it happened at a space that popular streamer Adin Ross rented out.

The owner of the warehouse told Local 10 News reporter Hannah Yechivi he’s livid about the fight, saying he retained an attorney and could kick out the people who rented the space from him.

Though Saturday’s incident did not end in an arrest, Brown is widely known for being at the center of multiple off-the-field issues, including South Florida arrests after authorities said he failed to pay child support and fought a moving truck driver in Hollywood, an incident for which he ultimately received probation. The driver later received a $1.2 million civil verdict.
