A separation between Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals appears imminent.

Murray, due to injuries, has missed significant time in 2025. Jacoby Brissett replaced Murray beginning in Week 6, with Arizona’s franchise quarterback not appearing since.

Arizona subsequently placed Murray on season-ending IR as the team stumbled to last place in the NFC West.

The Cardinals now face a choice this offseason: keep Murray, try and trade an enormous contract, or cut Murray.

Kyler Murray Contract Information

Trading Murray’s contract will be no small feat. The former first overall pick signed a five-year, $230.5 million extension in 2022 and has three years remaining.

The ideal scenario for Arizona is to trade Murray after June 1, 2026. Arizona would retain $10.7 million in dead money and save $42.5 million against the cap.

Even a pre-June 1 trade would help Arizona. Arizona would still retain $17.9 million in dead money, but would save $35.3 million against the cap.

Comparatively, by designating Murray as a post-June 1 cut, the Cardinals would accumulate $47.5 million in dead money next year and save only $5.7 million against the cap.

Kyler Murray Trade Predictions

Very few teams needing a quarterback have the cap space to take on Murray’s contract.

The New York Jets are the first potential trade partner for Murray. Tyrod Taylor has no guaranteed money after 2025, and the Jets could move for Murray to replace Justin Fields.

Another potential trade partner for Murray is the Indianapolis Colts. However, Indy lacks the draft capital for a potential trade after trading a pair of first-round picks for Sauce Gardner.

That said, the team is not committed to Daniel Jones after this season. With cap room next offseason, Murray could prove an attractive option to the Colts.

One last potential trade candidate is in the NFC West: Seattle. The Seahawks could move on from Sam Darnold this offseason and have room to acquire Murray’s contract.

More options could arrive if the Cardinals cut Murray. In that event, his contract would become null, and any team could negotiate a new contract with Murray.
