The New York Jets were embarrassed in Week 14, losing 34-10 to their AFC East rival Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins completed the regular-season sweep over the Jets, who fell to 3-10.

Jets starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor exited the contest with a groin injury. Because Justin Fields had been ruled out with an injury suffered in practice, rookie undrafted QB Brady Cook made his debut. It went poorly, with Cook throwing two interceptions.

With that, Jets Wire has identified three things we learned about the Jets during Sunday’s lopsided defeat.

Passing game disappears

Unsurprisingly, the Jets’ passing game suffered once Cook replaced Taylor. An efficient aerial attack was severely hamstrung and the results reflected it. Cook went just 14-of-30 with 163 yards, zero scores, and the aforementioned two interceptions. Adonai Mitchell, who had 100 yards with Taylor last week, was limited to one catch for 24 yards.

Run defense… what run defense?

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa could have won this game with zero passing attempts. The Jets defense had absolutely no answer for Mike McDaniel’s creative run schemes. Backup running back Jaylen Wright rushed for a team-high 107 yards and a touchdown, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. De’Von Achane gained 92 yards and a TD of his own via just seven attempts (13.1 YPC).

The interception-less drought continues

Tagovailoa went 13-of-21 with 127 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions. We’ve reached the conclusion of Week 14 and the Jets defense still hasn’t recorded a single interception this season. It’s almost unfathomable. Every other defense in the NFL has a minimum of five interceptions.
