The Bills’ offense evolving

Buffalo’s offense is also trending in a positive direction, progressing since the last time it faced the Patriots. Outside of protecting the ball and winning the turnover battle, Allen said getting more names involved in the pass game improved.

Buffalo ranks 5th in scoring offense (28.9 ppg) and 2nd in yards per game (383.7) this season.

“We’re getting a lot of people involved in the pass game. It’s no secret. Away games, we have to be better in the pass game. That starts with me. So, again, finding easier completions, and especially early in the game, maybe taking some stuff underneath if it’s there,” Allen said. “Stay on task, stay in front of the sticks and end every drive in a kick away.”

Nine Bills players have over 100 receiving yards with wide receiver Khalil Shakir leading the pack with 57 receptions for 585 yards. Keon Coleman, Palmer and Tyrell Shavers are the others in the wide receiver room. While Gabe Davis and Brandin Cooks haven’t had as many opportunities on the field, having that high level of play and professionalism doesn’t get overlooked by Allen.

In the tight end room with Kincaid, Knox and Jackson Hawes, all three continue impacting the pass game, whether it’s blocking on the line or turning into Allen’s reliable receiver for the game, like Knox was against Cincinnati. Allen completed 11 passes to his tight ends for 137 yards and two touchdowns against the Bengals.

The Bills generated explosive plays in both facets of last week’s game. Buffalo netted six explosive gains of 15+ yards in the passing game and five in the run game.

“We want to be able to show that we can win different ways and different styles of games,” offensive coordinator Joe Brady said this week.
