AUBURN, Ala. (WSFA) – Coleman Hutzler, a longtime SEC assistant, will join Alex Golesh’s staff as the Tigers’ next assistant coach, the program announced Wednesday.

Hutzler, who’s coaching tenure spans nearly two decades, spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator for Mississippi State, which had three defenders rank in the top three in the league for tackles, including the league’s two top tacklers in 2024.

The 41-year-old Las Vegas native has worked with 10 football programs and is considered an elite developer of talent who has helped produce more than a dozen NFL players, according to Golesh.

Prior to his time in Starkville, Mississippi, Hutzler served as Nick Saban’s special teams coordinator at Alabama. His other previous stops include San Diego, Stanford, Florida, New Mexico, Boston College South Carolina, Texas, and Ole Miss.

Hutzler has repeatedly seen his special teams units and individuals rank among the best in the country in numerous categories and was a nominee for the Broyles Award while at South Carolina in 2017.

Hutzler has also previously worked with Tigers defensive coordinator DJ Durkin four times at Stanford, Florida and Ole Miss.

“We’re exited to add Coach Hutzler to our program,” Golesh said. “His strong SEC experience and proven ability as a recruiter will be invaluable to Auburn Football.”
