Marvin Harrison Jr. has had a rough go of things in recent weeks.

First, the Arizona Cardinals‘ second-year wide receiver needed to undergo appendix surgery after experiencing appendicitis before Week 11. That procedure and recovery caused Harrison to miss a couple of games for the first time in his pro career.

Then, upon returning, Harrison suffered a heel injury during Week 13 and has not been back to practice in the two weeks since. The Cardinals listed their top receiver as a non-participant in all three practices on their injury report last week, and Harrison remained out of practice to begin Week 15, according to Arizona’s Dec. 10 injury report.

Here’s what we know about Harrison’s status going forward:

When will Marvin Harrison Jr return?

It’s unclear when Harrison could return to action for the Cardinals.

The second-year receiver has missed three games already this season – two because of recovery from a surgery to treat appendicitis and then last week with a heel injury. Harrison still has not practiced since he sustained the injury in Week 13.

Arizona’s top wide receiver missed all three practices last week and was declared out for Week 14’s loss to the Rams. The Cardinals released their first Week 15 practice report on Dec. 10, and Harrison was listed as a non-participant with his heel injury.

The former No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is at risk of missing a fourth game this year after not missing any time as a rookie. The Cardinals’ wide receivers depth has continued to be tested in Harrison’s absence with fellow receiver Greg Dortch landing on IR before Week 14’s game. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett will need to continue leaning on Michael Wilson and tight end Trey McBride in Arizona’s passing offense.

Arizona is in dire straits at the wide receiver position at this point in the season. Neither Harrison nor Weaver practiced on Wednesday, Dec. 10, the first practice of Week 15, with their injuries.

Outside of the four receivers listed, the Cardinals also have four wideouts on injured reserve. Simi Fehoko, Greg Dortch and Zay Jones are all on IR. Jones is out for the year with an Achilles injury, Dortch is out until at least Week 18 with his recent placement on IR and Fehoko has missed four games but hasn’t returned to practice.
