Washington Commanders sophomore quarterback Jayden Daniels has been ruled out of Sunday’s Week 15 contest with divisional rival New York Giants.

Head coach Dan Quinn said that there were no structural setbacks with Daniels’ injury, but the doctors advised that he should sit this week.

“Due to medical evaluations over the past couple of days, including this morning, the doctors advised that we hold him this Sunday,” Quinn said. “Marcus will start.”

Daniels reaggravated an injury in his left elbow in Washington’s 31-0 Week 14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, when he was shoved to the ground after tossing an interception to Andrew Van Ginkel.

After being checked out on the sidelines, the brace on Daniels’ arm was removed, and he did not return to the game. Backup quarterback, turned starter in 2025 due to injuries, Marcus Mariota is set to start against New York.

Daniels originally suffered his gruesome elbow injury in the Commanders‘ Week 9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He was dragged to the ground, pinning his left elbow behind him awkwardly, causing it to dislocate. He sat out Weeks 10-13 before returning against Minnesota; however, his return was short-lived.

“We are really bummed for Jayden,” Quinn said. “He is working incredibly hard to get back on the field with his guys.”

Daniels played just over a half of football against the Vikings, before returning to the sidelines – where he has been nearly half of the season.

However, Quinn is hopeful that Daniels will not have to miss the remainder of the season.

“Let’s see where we are at next week,” Quinn said. “Just wanted to give you that information today, and then we can work into next week.”

Daniels completed 9 of 20 passes for 78 yards with an interception before he left in the third quarter.
