New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo’s impactful rookie season came to an unfortunate end on Oct. 26 after the 23-year-old suffered a season-ending injury in their 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Skattebo was forced to exit the game after injuring his right ankle. He was diagnosed with a dislocated ankle, which prompted the former Arizona State Sun Devils star to undergo surgery just hours after the loss to Philadelphia.

As part of his recovery, Skattebo has been wearing a walking boot on his right leg, which has significantly hampered his mobility. However, he took a significant step toward recovery on Wednesday.

Skattebo was having a big year prior to his injury. In eight games played, the fourth-round pick was able to produce 101 carries for 410 yards and five rushing touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 207 receiving yards and two TDs.

Skattebo’s campaign took a devastating turn in Week 8 when he fractured his ankle against Philly. What was supposed to be a breakout year ended up being cut short by an injury that prevented him from reaching his full potential as a rookie.

On Wednesday, however, Skattebo took to social media to share a significant update on his return from injury. Less than seven weeks after his surgery, the Giants star has already shed his walking boot.

Skattebo announced the major update through an Instagram story.

“Man, walking into the facility on my own two feet,” he said in the video. “God is good, man. Just want to say thank you to everybody that supported, man. We’re getting back. Let’s go.”

Skattebo did not provide a timetable on his return, but the fact that he’s no longer in his walking boot is a significant step in his progress. The Giants RB is expected to make a full recovery, and the hope is that he will be ready to return for the start of the 2026 season. This most recent development appears to indicate that he is on the right track.

At 2-11, New York is currently tied with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Tennessee Titans for the worst record in the NFL. The Giants are back in action on Sunday for a Week 15 matchup against the 3-10 Washington Commanders. It will be a home game for New York, with kickoff from MetLife Stadium scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
