After losing quarterback Daniel Jones to a season-ending Achilles injury, the Indianapolis Colts brought in 44-year-old veteran Philip Rivers and promoted former Denver Broncos backup Brett Rypien from the practice squad to their 53-man roster. Before those moves, the Colts attempted to poach Sam Ehlinger off Denver’s practice squad, but he opted to remain with the Broncos in a third-string role.

Rypien, 29, spent the first four years of his career with the Broncos, going 2-1 as a fill-in starter. He’s spent time with seven other NFL teams since then and has now been promoted in Indianapolis.

Elsewhere on the ex-Bronco front, the Washington Commanders released long snapper Zach Triner and wide receiver River Cracraft from their practice squad, and they promoted running back Chase Edmonds to the active roster.

Additionally, the Los Angeles Chargers signed defensive lineman Kyle Peko to their practice squad while offensive lineman Karsen Barnhart and defensive back Omar Brown worked out for the Green Bay Packers and wide receiver Tyreik McAllister worked out for the Arizona Cardinals.
