The Kansas City Chiefs have been a pillar of NFL success for a decade, which means every offseason the league’s less successful franchises circle the roster and coaching staff looking for pieces of the organization they can pluck away in hopes of building their own dynasties.
That particular point of the season will soon be upon the Chiefs again, perhaps sooner than usual as they currently own a 6-7 record and may not be part of the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. The Tennessee Titans certainly will not be part of the postseason, and after firing former head coach Brian Callahan earlier this year, Tennessee is going to be on the prowl for a new sideline leader.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on Wednesday, December 10 that Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is a top candidate on the Titans’ short list.

“The Matt Nagy-Titans connection is one that comes up in league circles, with the belief that Tennessee general manager Mike Borgonzi has a good relationship with Nagy from their Kansas City days,” Fowler wrote. “Nagy’s Chicago tenure has aged well, going 34-31 with Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback. The Chiefs’ struggles could affect Nagy’s chances. But I expect him to be a candidate in Tennessee.”
Nagy was the offensive coordinator for Kansas City in 2017 before taking the Bears head coaching job from 2018-21. After Chicago fired him, Nagy returned to the Chiefs organization and has served as the OC there for the past three seasons under Andy Reid. Kansas City has earned two Super Bowl appearances during that run and won a ring.
