Good morning ☕

The Jets head south in search of their 4th win of the season, although plenty of fans will hope they come back empty handed.

The focus has shifted from winning this season to winning this off-season and every loss puts the Jets closer to being able to draft the QB of the future.

We’ve spoken a lot this week about the future of the Jets, including how much is too much to give up for Fernando Mendoza, and Mougey’s priority list.

Today I’m going to turn my focus back to the present with a look at Sunday’s game in Jacksonville, against a team who are doing exactly what the Jets hope to do, eradicate that losing mentality and be in the playoff hunt.

I’ve been very bad at sharing my articles for the Jets international site. So if you’re not too tired of me talking about QBs, then yesterday I released my short intro which includes my late round sleeper that I’ve yet to mention on TJW.

Last week it was all around the Special Teams, so if you missed that, here it is.

NEWS & NOTES

Let’s start with the injury report. No Tyrod Taylor and no Justin Fields, it’s certainly trending towards Brady Cook starting against the Jaguars on Sunday. Breece Hall did return on a limited basis, as did Harrison Phillips and Quincy Williams. Today will be the last chance for Taylor/Fields to prove their health ahead of the game. Mason Taylor and AZ Thomas were both missing again today.

“The last time the Jets rolled out an undrafted rookie as their starting quarterback? It was Dec. 15, 1975, when J.J. Jones started for the injured Joe Namath, who wound up playing anyway. Jones, out of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, lasted only a few series, finishing with as many completions as interceptions — one.” (ESPN)

Joe Burrow had some interesting comments yesterday in his press conference including “If I want to keep doing this, I have to have fun doing it. I have been through a lot. If it’s not fun, then what am I doing it for?” he then said “There’s just a lot of things going on right now.” – If Joe Burrow were to turn around and retire tomorrow I wouldn’t be shocked, pull an Andrew Luck. But if he wanted to carry on playing and he wanted a fresh start and the Bengals were willing to trade him, what would you offer?

Armand Membou had some good things to say about his former teammate at Missouri and current teammate with the Jets: “I think he did a really good job in a tough situation, We had a lot of adversity that hit us during the game, but I think he just stayed really levelheaded and poised and he did well. I just dapped him up before he went in, but I had full confidence in him though. I didn’t say much. I just think he did a really good job taking command of the huddle.” (Official Website)

“To be able to go out there and play physical, relentless football,” he said. “That’s our goal each week for the rest of the way out. Just to dominate.” Joe Tippmann said. (Official Website)

Jeremy Fowler believes that the additions of AD Mitchell and John Metchie will ensure the Jets don’t have to overpay in the WR market – “When it comes to receiver pay, the Jets have a few guys acquired via trades who might assuage their need to overpay for a receiver in March. John Metchie III and Adonai Mitchell have contributed steadily through the past month. The hope for New York is that one or both can serve as complementary pass catchers to Garrett Wilson and that the Jets will have flexibility with the market — essentially, they wouldn’t have to chase receiver help from a position of vulnerability. Now, that doesn’t mean they won’t potentially add. But New York already has to pay a premium for receivers due to the traditional passing game struggles, and hitting on Mitchell, Metchie, or both would lessen the desperation factor,” (ESPN)

Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence: 'I need to really turn it on'

Had it not been for a slap of the ankles from Braden Mann, Trevor Lawrence could have been suiting up for the Jets this Sunday.
