Rosters shuffle for teams every week across the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings have been making moves to combat their continuously evolving injury situation. Earlier this year they went and grabbed a familiar face at running back after Aaron Jones hit injured reserve.
Cam Akers stuck around for a bit, but this season Jones return and Jordan Mason provided enough insurance to let him go elsewhere. He landed in Seattle, but the time there has come to an end as well. He’s vacating the premises with a former teammate as well.

Seattle Seahawks waive Akers and Griffin
Akers signed with the Seattle Seahawks just before the Minnesota Vikings faced them two weeks ago. He joined veteran cornerback Shaq Griffin, who reunited with his former employer over the offseason. Both will be looking for a new home after Seattle waived both Thursday.

Griffin had bounced back and forth between the active roster and practice squad this season with Seattle. He wound up active for just two games and logged a start. In his ninth season, the 30-year-old had seven tackles for the Seahawks.
It remains to be seen if Griffin wants to keep playing, but he should be able to find a landing spot for the stretch run as a depth piece. Griffin played in all 17 games for the Minnesota Vikings last year and he picked off a pair of passes.

Akers has played for Minnesota each of the past three seasons. He was acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, and the Houston Texans in 2024. This year he made his way to the Vikings after being released by the New Orleans Saints.
Seattle kept Akers around for two weeks but he never appeared in a game. With Minnesota, the veteran logged three games and had five rushing attempts.
Neither are a good bet to wind back up in Minnesota this year. If the Vikings were worried about winning games, then Griffin may make sense as cornerback depth. At 5-8 though, it’s just about getting through the season.
