Reporters saw McCaffrey at the very start of practice, but after about 10 minutes he was no longer participating. (He didn’t look terrific in the locker room after practice either). https://t.co/mKtotPT5rs

There was an unwanted surprise on the San Francisco 49ers practice report Thursday ahead of their Week 15 matchup with the Tennessee Titans.

Running back Christian McCaffrey got his usual day off Wednesday, but he was listed as a limited participant after Thursday’s session because of an illness. An illness doesn’t typically keep a player from playing in the week’s game, although it isn’t completely unheard of.

The Athletic’s Matt Barrows on Twitter offered his assessment of McCaffrey on Thursday:

The good news for San Francisco is McCaffrey has until Sunday to get healthy. The bigger concern than the illness keeping McCaffrey out of action is if the illness lingering into Sunday and perhaps limiting his effectiveness. Friday’s participation report will give us a better idea of how he’s trending entering the weekend.
