CLEVELAND, Ohio (TheOBR.com) Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
THE DAILY BLOVIATION
I have a strange relationship with the University of Michigan. On one hand, my Father was from Michigan, so I grew up a Michigan fan as a young boy and watched games with him. On the other hand, I went to college at Ohio State and had some of the best years of my life there. I came out of college a rabid Ohio State fan, which is probably a good thing since their success balances out my experience with the Browns, helping to keep me sane.
So, my loathing of Michigan is tempered a bit by life experience, unlike, say, my loathing of the Baltimore Ratbirds, which knows no bounds.
But sometimes, you just have to say “enough is enough”, cross out the M’s, and resort to hating with vigor. Such is the case now that Michigan has begun pursuing the Browns’ offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees, for their head coaching job.
I mean, you get one freaking great game from your rookie quarterback, and colleges start buzzing around your offensive coordinator like mosquitoes. Leave him be, and let him stick to developing Shedeur Sanders, you vipers.
While Rees is saying all the right things about focusing on his task in Cleveland, the situation in Michigan is a complete disaster, which would scare me off if I were him. But it is one of the better positions in the country, and I’m sure it pays very, very well. It’s a concern that, after the Browns seem to be finally getting their act together offensively, here comes That Team Up North to steal our promising young offensive coordinator.
Back off, for Pete’s sake. Leave the poor Browns alone.
A REASON TO KEEP STEFANSKI? As a chronicler of the Cleveland Browns since they re-entered the league as an expansion team in 1999, I’ve seen plenty of circumstances when a Browns owner has fired a head coach with absolutely no plan on how to replace him, or unrealistic notions of how appealing the job might be.
There are a lot of people suggesting that Kevin Stefanski should be dumped after 2025, and they can easily point to his 6-24 record over the last two years as justification. At the same time, do those fans trust that Jimmy Haslam would be able to find a well-qualified replacement? After all, he’s the one who brought in Stefanski in the first place.
Pouring cold water on that notion is Jason Lloyd, a writer for The Athletic, who told sportsyappers on 92.3 that he doesn’t consider the Browns to be an attractive job, and less desirable than the Giants opening. I bring this up because I, frankly, agree with it, as well as the notion that Haslam’s head coach hiring record is, um, a bit spotty. Put the two together, and you get a webdork who doesn’t want to pull this particular trigger after the season.
Feel free to holler at me in the comments if you want, but I want to know that there’s a high-quality Plan B if you’re going to nix Plan A. The Browns have a reputation as a coaching graveyard (perhaps infected with zombies), and not many would want to step into it willingly.
Scary stuff, kids. Ooooooo.
DON’T GET TOO EXCITED: While Browns fans’ attention is on Shedeur, much of the league’s attention is on Joe Burrow, who recently made some comments that might indicate dissatisfaction in Cincinnati. The comments drew the attention of NFL teams, since Burrow is one of the league’s top quarterbacks. If he were to demand a trade, Cincinnati is unlikely to deal him within the division, even if Burrow is an Ohio kid, but it would certainly knock the Browns’ AFC North competitor off their path.
Burrow is under contract until 2029, so he’s not leaving of his own volition anytime soon, even if Steeler fans are living in fantasyland.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

Genetic Mutation Could Pave the Way for Self-Fertilizing Cereal Crops and a Revolution in Agriculture – (goodnewsnetwork.org)
This could be huge, or it could lead to plants scheming to take over the world. I don’t know when “gene manipulation” comes up. One or the other. But researchers have found a genetic switch that can be manipulated to allow crops like wheat to pull nitrogen from the air rather than relying on nitrogen fertilizer. This would negate the need for crop rotation in some circumstances as well. With human populations continuing to expand, this sort of development could help us sustain a larger world.
