With their favorite team owning a ghastly 3-10 record, New York Jets fans have mostly turned their attention to the 2026 offseason.

In particular, fans are focused on a draft in which the Jets own 14 total picks, per Tankathon.

Or is it actually 12 picks?

It’s time to clear the air regarding a misconception about the Jets’ treasure chest of draft selections.

Jets’ draft pick total is misrepresented

On the website Tankathon, which is the most popularly referred-to source for information about draft selections and the draft order, the Jets are displayed as having 14 total draft picks (including four projected compensatory picks). This is misleading; New York actually owns 12 picks (while still including the compensatory projections).

The error on Tankathon lies in the sixth round. The site displays New York as owning three sixth-round picks, but they actually have one.

Why the confusion? Let’s break it down.

First and foremost, it should be made clear that the Jets do not possess their own 2026 sixth-round pick. That was sent to Cleveland in the Jowon Briggs trade (which is working out spectacularly), with the Browns sending Briggs and a 2026 seventh-rounder (via Buffalo) back to New York.

However, the Jets have executed three trades that brought 2026 sixth-rounders to New York:

via Baltimore (Day 3 of 2025 draft): Ravens traded R6-176 (Jets selected Tyler Baron) and 2026 sixth-round pick to Jets for R6-186 (Ravens selected Tyler Loop) and 2026 fifth-round pick

via Buffalo (Aug. 27, 2024): Bills traded 2026 sixth-round pick to Jets for Brandon Codrington and 2026 seventh-round pick

via Denver (Apr. 29, 2024): Broncos traded 2026 sixth-round pick to Jets for John Franklin-Myers

All three of these picks are displayed in the Jets’ collection on the Tankathon website. In reality, the Jets have since dealt two of those three selections:

to Minnesota (Aug. 21, 2025): Jets traded 2026 sixth-round pick and 2027 sixth-round pick to Vikings for Harrison Phillips and 2027 seventh-round pick

to Tennessee (Sep. 23, 2025): Jets traded 2026 sixth-round pick to Titans for Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and 2026 seventh-round pick

Here’s the catch, though: We don’t know precisely which two picks they got rid of.

For that reason, it seems that Tankathon has elected to keep all three picks displayed on the Jets’ page instead of guessing which ones they dumped.

The only knowledge we have is that the Jets sent their own sixth-round pick to Cleveland in the Briggs trade; this has been confirmed in multiple reports, partially because the pick has already been traded twice more, increasing its prominence in the media.

Another major Jaguars-Browns trade, per ESPN sources:

🏈Jaguars get CB Greg Newsome and the Jets’ 2026 sixth-round pick from the Browns.

🏈Browns get CB Tyson Campbell and the Eagles’ 2026 7th-round pick from the Jaguars.

However, there have yet to be any reports confirming exactly which picks the Jets sent away in the trades with Minnesota and Tennessee for Harrison Phillips and Jarvis Brownlee Jr., respectively.

That leaves us in the dark regarding exactly which picks the Jets possess going into the 2026 NFL draft. The Jets themselves have this knowledge; it just hasn’t been reported publicly yet.

What we do know is that the Jets possess one sixth-round pick in the 2026 draft, bringing them to 12 total if you include their projected total of four compensatory picks (which also hasn’t been confirmed yet and is merely a prediction at this point).

Here’s a breakdown of what we know and don’t know on Dec. 12:

Jets confirmed to own (7):

NYJ R1 (#7)

IND R1 (#18)

NYJ R2 (#38)

DAL R2 (#47)

NYJ R4 (#104)

TEN R7 (#218)

BUF R7 (#239)

Jets have one of these three:

BAL R6 (#194)

BUF R6 (#203)

DEN R6 (#212)

Predicted compensatory picks (4):

R5 (#177)

R7 (#253)

R7 (#255)

R7 (#257)

Hopefully, this helped clear the air regarding the Jets’ draft outlook heading into the 2026 offseason.
