We’ve got just four weeks of Sunday Night Football on NBC and Peacock left in the regular season, and every game counts. Teams already in playoff position are trying to keep hold of their spots, while teams just outside playoff position are fighting for a chance at a Wild Card berth.

This week, SNF heads to Dallas, where the Cowboys are clinging to second place in the NFC East and hoping they can finish strong enough to glimpse the postseason. They’ll face a Minnesota Vikings squad that’s struggled, but could still be a spoiler for the NFC in the weeks to come. Let’s take a closer look at the matchup.

These are both NFC teams who’ve struggled mightily at various points this season. The Vikings have had quarterback issues, turnover issues, and other issues with offensive production, but they got a much-needed boost of confidence last week via a 31-0 shutout win over the Commanders. Still, they’re last in the always-tough NFC North, and the playoffs are a long shot for them at this point. Still, second-year (really first year, because he spent his entire rookie season sidelined with an injury) quarterback J.J. McCarthy put on a bit of a show last week. Maybe he’s got some more magic in him against Dallas.
As for the Cowboys, they’ve been making up lost ground over the last few weeks, right up until a loss to the Lions last week. They notched several key victories in November, including upset wins over the Eagles and the Chiefs, and they’re back within striking distance of a Wild Card playoff spot if they can keep winning, thanks in no small part to a league-best passing attack. Several key players, including wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, look to be returning from injury this week, and if they can emerge in good shape, the Cowboys should pull out a win in front of their hometown crowd. As all Cowboys fans know, though, nothing is ever entirely certain with this team.
