Dolphins parted ways with OLB Coach Ryan Crow

The Miami Dolphins are in the middle of their best stretch of the season, as they have won four straight games. That did not stop the team from letting go of one of their coaches. Miami Herald columnist Barry Jackson reported that the Dolphins have parted ways with outside linebackers (OLB) coach Ryan Crow.

Crow joined the Dolphins in 2024. He had served as the OLB coach in Tennessee prior to his arrival in Miami. The coach had been on leave since August 28, following allegations that he had shoved and attempted to slap his girlfriend. The charges were later dropped, but he remained on leave. Following his arrest, head coach Mike McDaniel said “He has been placed on leave indefinitely. The allegations we take extremely serious. Organization standpoint, from guilty all the way to innocent, rule No. 1 for our team is protect the team. And that one was violated.”

Head coach Mike McDaniel has yet to comment on the dismissal of Ryan Crow.

Ever since Ryan Crow was placed on leave, senior defensive assistant Sean Ryan has been in charge of the unit. The outside linebackers unit currently contains: Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson, Matthew Judon, Cameron Goode and Andre Carter.

Bradley Chubb is the leader of the unit, both in terms of veteran leadership and on the field play. He’s the team leader with 6.5 sacks. Additionally, he’s a team captain for the first time in his Miami Dolphins tenure. Chop Robinson is the up-and-coming star with the most potential. He flashed as a rookie with 6 sacks, before struggling this year. He’s come on strong lately as he’s registered 2.5 sacks in the previous two games.

The outside linebackers unit also lost the services of Jaelan Phillips during the year. The former first-round pick was traded by the Dolphins to Philadelphia in exchange for a third-round pick. He was set to be a free agent following the year and with the team firmly outside the playoff picture they decided it was best to invest in the future. Phillips finished his Dolphins career with 26 sacks in 55 games.

Judon was Miami’s latest signee at the position, as he signed on August 19. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has yet to record a sack as a member of the Dolphins despite appearing in 12 games this season. Due to Ryan Crow’s leave, Judon only got to work with him for a little over a week.

Monday Night Football Against Pittsburgh

It’s impossible to quantify what having a coach arrested and then placed on leave does to team morale. However, this isn’t a new situation for the team. They’ve been without the services of Ryan Crow for the entire year. If anything, the Dolphins letting Crow go means the situation finally run its due course and Miami reached a decision on the coach.

For now, the team must shift its focus to beating Pittsburgh on the road. They have a chance to reach .500 for the first time this year and it will have to come in harsh conditions on Monday Night Football.
