BEREA, Ohio — Myles Garrett reached out to his Steelers’ pass-rush rival T.J. Watt this week in the wake of his collapsed lung.

Watt’s older brother, J.J. Watt, posted Friday on X that T.J. suffered a partially collapsed lung following a dry needling treatment at the Steelers facility and underwent surgery to treat it.

He was well enough to leave the hospital, J.J. said, but has been ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Dolphins.

“I reached out to him, but I don’t have his number or anything,” Garrett said Friday during his weekly availability. “But I reached out to him. So I’m hoping for the best. At the end of the day, our teams may be rivals and they might create a rivalry between us, but he’s not my enemy.

“I’m hoping for the best for him and he’s healthy and hopefully he comes back soon, whatever it is. You said it’s a collapsed lung. That’s more than I knew. I just knew it was a lung injury.”

Informed that J.J. released the details of the injury on X, Garrett said, “I’m praying for the whole Watt family.”

Before the Browns’ 23-9 loss in Pittsburgh Oct. 12, Garrett said that he has no beef with T.J. despite what it may seem. When Garrett won NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Watt, who had 19.0 sacks that year to Garrett’s 14.0, skipped the ceremony and posted on X “nothing I’m not used to.”

Garrett seemed to take exception to the remarks, but soon let it go.

“Knowing his brother, I have a lot of respect for all three of (the Watt brothers),” Garrett said in October. “So I mean it’s a hell of an honor and a privilege to be able to play this game at this level, and especially at the level in which we do. So I’ve nothing but nothing but respect for the way he does that.”

The Steelers, a game ahead of the Ravens for first place in the AFC North at 7-6, will certainly miss Watt, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a seven-time Pro Bowler, for however long he’s out. He leads the team with 7.0 sacks, and is tied for the lead with three forced fumbles.

The Steelers come to Cleveland for the rematch in Week 17, on Dec. 28.
