The AFC North is back with two teams desperate for wins in this Ravens vs. Bengals prediction. Baltimore (6-7, 4-9 ATS) is now one game behind Pittsburgh, after losing to the Steelers at home 27-22. The Bengals (4-9, 6-7 ATS) are coming off a 39-34 loss at snowy Buffalo, which put Cincinnati as a huge longshot to win the division and make the playoffs. These teams already met in Baltimore on Thanksgiving night, with the Bengals winning 32-14. It’s going to be very cold in Cincinnati, as temperatures are expected to be in the low teens and below 0 with the wind chill.  This is just one game; Winners and Whiners also covers nearly every game for seven sports, including NFL picks on the other matchups this weekend.

Baltimore is in trouble after starting the season at 1-5 and then winning five straight games. Since then, they’ve lost two straight to the Bengals and Steelers at home. The Ravens’ main issues against Cincinnati were the turnover factor (five). The defense was the biggest problem against Pittsburgh, as they allowed a moribund offense to produce 284 passing yards. Lamar Jackson struggled again, going 19 of 35 for 219 yards with a TD and a pick. He didn’t get a lot of help from his receivers and officials. With 2:47 left, Jackson hit TE Isaiah Likely in the end zone for what appeared to be a 13-yard TD pass. Likely extended his arms to catch the ball and got at least two feet in, but the call was overturned by the replay official because he didn’t get the “third foot down”.

Jackson rushed for 43 yards and a TD against the Steelers and now has just 307 yards rushing with two TDs. He’s missed practice once a week for the last month and has been dealing with a variety of injuries, including a hamstring, which has cost him three games. He’s completing 64.4% of his passes for 2,060 yards with 16 TDs and five INTs. Derrick Henry leads the Ravens with 1,025 yards on the ground (4.6ypc) and 10 TDs. Zay Flowers is the top receiver with 68 catches for 891 yards and one TD.

The biggest issue for Baltimore on defense is their lack of pass rush. They rank 30th in the NFL with 19 sacks, while Cincinnati is 29th with 21 sacks.

Bengals likely playing out the string

There was some hope, after Cincinnati’s win on Thanksgiving over Baltimore, that they could run the table with a healthy Joe Burrow and win the AFC North. That defense that held the Ravens to 14 points struggled in the snow in Buffalo, falling by five (covering the 5.5). Burrow completed 25 of 36 for 284 yards with four TDs, but also had two devastating interceptions. Cincy led most of the game, including by 10, 28-18, with 8:44 left in the game after Burrow hit TE Mike Gesicki. But after a Josh Allen 40-yard TD run to cut the lead to three, Burow was picked off by LB Christian Benford with 5:25 left and the Bengals never recovered.

Cincinnati might be in contention in the AFC North had Burrow (toe) stayed healthy, but he has played in just four games this season, throwing for 734 yards with eight TDs and a pick. RB Chase Brown has had a solid season with 727 yards rushing and three TDs. Ja’Marr Chase is one of the premier receivers in the game with 91 catches and 1,015 yards with five TDs. However, WR2 Tee Higgins (46 for 667 yards, 9 TDs) is listed as questionable due to concussion symptoms after catching six passes for 92 yards and two TDs against the Bills.

Defensively, Joseph Ossai leads the team with five sacks, while Trey Hendrickson has four in seven games. Hendrickson (core surgery) will miss this game and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Ossai was injured against the Bills and is questionable early in the week.

The end is near and here for the Ravens, who needed last week’s game to take control of the AFC North. They just don’t have it on either side of the ball, which includes an inept offensive line and a defense that gets almost no pressure from their front four. Jackson will play better against the Bengals than he did two weeks ago, but Burrow is also healthier and will be more accurate than the first contest when he was 24 of 46. Expect Chase Brown to have another big game against the Ravens. Two games ago, he rushed for 78 yards and caught seven passes for 35 yards. The Bengals ran for 128 yards and threw for 254 against a subpar defense. Neither team has a strong pass rush, so expect a lot of points in the cold weather on Sunday, but the Bengals take this one outright as they are a different team with Burrow under center.
