The Tennessee Titans offensive line that emerged last week with its strongest game of the season is now facing some injury questions heading into this Sunday’s game at the San Francisco 49ers.
The Titans listed three different starters on the offensive line as questionable this week. Lloyd Cushenberry, who has been out the previous two games with a foot injury, is listed as questionable. He could be poised to come back in time for Sunday’s game. If that happens, the Titans would have to determine what to do with Corey Levin, who played well in his two starts at center in Cushenberry’s stead.
“It’s what we do. You always prepare,” Titans interim coach Mike McCoy said of the injury situation and adjusting to it. “That’s what you have all the reps and that’s why you always express to the guys the importance of when they’re servicing or giving look teams for the other side of the ball, whatever that is, that you make the most of it because you never know when your opportunities are going to come up. Very similar to what Corey has done the past couple weeks. So when you take advantage of every opportunity you get, you’ll be as prepared as possible when things come up.”
Levin could end up shifting to right guard where Kevin Zeitler has missed practice this week due to a groin injury. He is also listed as questionable. The only other reasonable option there besides Levin filling in would be rookie Jackson Slater, who has not seen any action thus far.
“He’s always cross-trained. That’s the position—you have guys that whether you’re a swing tackle, whether you’re an inside swing guy, and as coaches we always move guys around anyways because you never know,” McCoy said. “You’ve always got to be training guys in case you only have so many guys up. It’s just very similar to receivers too. There’s guys that are outside, but then you got to say, ‘Hey, you got to make sure you know the inside,’ so it’s really with everybody you kind of cross-train at times. So you like smart players. You get good smart players, they can do that, the flexibility.”
The third offensive lineman on the injury report is left tackle Dan Moore, who was limited with a neck injury suffered in Friday’s game.
Elsewhere, the Titans ruled cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis out with an Achilles injury. Linebacker James Williams is questionable with an illness, but returned to practice Friday. Defensive lineman C.J. Ravenell is also questionable with a toe injury.
