It’s uncommon for ‘boring’ to be used as a positive adjective when describing something’s nature, but the Carolina Panthers’ Week 15 injury report on Friday is delightfully boring.
All 53 Active Roster Panthers’ Players Fully Participated on Friday
Following the ramped-up activity level in Thursday’s practice, cornerback Jaycee Horn and linebacker Claudin Cherelus have officially cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol. Neither player carries an injury designation into the contest against New Orleans on Sunday.
There isn’t a single player on the 53-man roster who will carry a designation in Week 15, as of Friday. Knock on wood, if you feel compelled to do so.
The only other three players on the early injury report this week are center Cade Mays (ankle), linebacker Christian Rozeboom (hip/hamstring), and safety Lathan Ransom (thumb). All have been cleared to play against the Saints. The Panthers can move within one game of clinching the NFC South with a win Sunday.
Panthers’ head coach Dave Canales provided brief updates on two players who will be eligible to have their practice windows opened. First, on guard Robert Hunt, he said, “Every week closer. We’ll reevaluate that on Monday and Tuesday and see where he is from a strength standpoint.”
Canales added, “We got to make sure that the arms extended away from a your body. That has to be the most strong possible place so that you’re safe in that and you’re powerful in that position. And really that’s the next thing out there for him. So we’re going to continue to push that and make sure we’ll get him out there when he’s ready.”
Wide receiver and Panthers’ special teams contributor David Moore is also nearing a possible return. Canales said the team will “try to get David [Moore] out there tomorrow — sorry, next week, and open up his window to practice in a mode to see if he can handle being out there running.”
Focused on Winning the Day
When asked if he was ’emotionally involved’ and locked in on the Thursday Night Football game between Atlanta and New Orleans, Canales told reporters, “I watched the first half. You know, 8:00 kick is here, so it’s around 10:00 got to sleep with the workday in front of me and woke up and found out what the score was.”
Canales stressed the importance of staying focused. He added, “If I’m asking the guys to be focused on this week, I have to as well. I’m sure I’ll have a chance to dive into some of those things going forward.” It’s a fitting sentiment from the Panthers’ leading man, seeing that the team has dubbed the final on-field sessions ‘Focus Friday’.
“Nope,” Canales responded when asked if he addressed the team specifically about the TNF result and its impact. He continued, “Today was our Friday. Today was a Focus Friday and we had to be locked in, finishing up some red zone concepts. Friday is the day you really pull the whole game plan together: first and second down, third down, short yardage, goal line, red zone, and so it’s really this cool dry run at the things that we’re doing. That’s our focus.”
Perhaps Canales’ next comment will quell some fans’ anxiety about the Panthers possibly looking ahead to Week 16 with Tampa Bay. He made sure to state clearly, “We play the Bucs next week. We’re playing the Saints this week. We got to have our focus here. It’s going to take everything we have to win this games and we’re going to get the Saints’ best shot.”
