Atlanta Falcons star Bijan Robinson has issued an apology for making an “insensitive comment” on the Thursday Night Football postgame show.
When asked by Richard Sherman about his ability to make defenders miss and whether it came from backyard football, Robinson confirmed by saying he played the game “smear the [expletive]” as a child. The term Robinson used is a slur directed toward the LGBTQ+ community.
Shortly after his comments, Robinson took to X in an attempt to make amends.
“Hey everyone I want to apologize for the insensitive comment I made in the broadcast, it was a football game we used to play as a kid but that’s not an excuse,” Robinson posted. “I recognize the mistake and make sure to do better in the future. It was not reflective of my beliefs and I am so sorry to those I offended seriously!”
Robinson, 23, is in his third year out of Texas and within striking distance of 2,000 all-purpose yards on the season.
