Even though Trevon Diggs has said he is ready to return from a concussion and knee injury, the Dallas Cowboys won’t have him on the field for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that even though Diggs is coming off a strong week of practice, his relationship with the Cowboys has “soured” to the point of being “severed.”

Diggs told reporters on Friday he is “ready” to play after missing the past seven games.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan later in the day that the team would decide on Saturday if Diggs would play against Minnesota.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer made some vague statements earlier in the week about Diggs’ potential return, saying the veteran cornerback has “got to show us he’s ready to do everything the right way.”

The Cowboys opened up Diggs’ practice window on Nov. 30, four days before their game against the Detroit Lions. They have until Dec. 21 to add him back to the active roster, otherwise he will go on season-ending injured reserve.

It’s unclear exactly what has happened with Diggs that has potentially soured the Cowboys on him. Schottenheimer would only say he needs “consistency through everything” and that last week was “a good first step” and if this week was better that he would be on the field.

Since it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen, Diggs’ status for the remainder of the season becomes a huge question mark. His activation window will close on the same day they play the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16.

Diggs last played in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. The two-time Pro Bowler was on the field for every defensive snap in each of the last two games he played.

The Cowboys have Diggs under contract through the 2028 season, but they could save $12.6 million against next year’s cap if he is released in the offseason.
