Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce suffered an unfortunate first in the team’s 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 14 when he finished the game with more drops [two] than receptions.

“You put in all this [expletive] work and hope that it pays off,” the 36-year-old lamented during the latest “New Heights” podcast episode. “And right now, it’s just for whatever [expletive] reason, man, it’s little things. I feel like I’ve always had the answers in years past. And this year, I just can’t find them.

“I keep thinking if I show up to work and I put in the work and I fix the issues through my practice habits and through perfecting the game plan and my fundamentals and what I’m being taught, and go out there and try and play my ass off for my guys next to me, it’s all going to come together like it has in years past. And this year it is just not, man.”

Following his struggles on the field last weekend, Kelce declined interview requests twice. According to Pro Football Talk, players who are not in the concussion protocol must make themselves available to the media when asked.

“Players have been fined in the past, if/when the failure to comply with media obligations becomes chronic, and if the media covering the team complains about it. Sometimes, the media doesn’t make waves,” PFT said.

Clearly media wasn’t too displeased because the NFL saw fit to let Kelce off without a fine. When announcing its list of punishments for Week 14, the Chiefs tight end was not included.

As always, the weekly fines are subject to the league’s review, and it can choose to enforce or not enforce supplemental discipline as it sees fit.
