The Jets have elevated QB Adrian Martinez and DB Tre Brown to the active roster for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars. The club also activated LB Cam Jones from injured reserve and placed rookie CB Azareye’h Thomas on injured reserve.
Martinez (6-2, 220), who rejoined the Jets on Dec. 10, signed with the club in July and spent the summer with the team. He appeared in a second connective preseason with the Green & White and was waived as part of final roster cuts in August. The Nebraska/Kansas State product went undrafted in 2023 and spent the preseason with the Detroit Lions. He then went on to play with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL), where he earned MVP honors. Martinez signed with the 49ers practice squad in November and appeared in one game before he was released.
Brown (5-10, 185), who was elevated for last Sunday’s game vs. the Dolphins, was signed to the practice squad on Nov. 11. He was a fourth-round draft selection of the Seahawks in 2021. The Oklahoma product spent 4 seasons in Seattle, appearing in 39 games (13 starts) and recording 74 tackles, 8 pass defenses and 2 INTs. Brown signed with the San Francisco 49ers in March, but he was placed on injured reserve in August before being released with an injury settlement in September. Brown then signed with the Los Angeles Rams and appeared in 5 games, playing 60 snaps on special teams. He was released by the team on Oct. 28.
Placed on injured reserve on Oct. 25, Jones (6-2, 227) sustained a hip injury in the Jets’ Week 6 loss to the Broncos in London. A third-year player, Jones was claimed off waivers by the Jets after initial 53-man rosters were finalized in August. The Indiana product, who signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and spent two years in Kansas City, appeared in the first 6 games for the Green & White this season. He played 105 snaps on special teams and 3 on defense.
Thomas (6-1, 197), a third-round pick from Florida State who sustained a shoulder injury vs. Miami, appeared in 12 games (5 starts) and tallied 13 tackles and 7 PDs. He had recorded PDs in six connective games, the longest current pass defense streak among NFL rookies. It also tied with Darrelle Revis for the second-longest streak by a Jets rookie since 2000.
