The Washington Commanders made a roster move on Saturday, elevating cornerback Darius Rush from the practice squad.

Also, the Commanders have announced that CB Jonathan Jones is out for Sunday’s game against the Giants. Running back Chris Rodriguez, who suffered a groin injury last week, has been on the mend this week and is listed as questionable. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel missed practice on Friday due to an illness and is therefore listed as questionable.

Rush was drafted by the Colts in 2023 at 138th overall in the fifth round out of South Carolina. Rush subsequently signed a four-year deal that would take him through the 2026 season. However, Rush didn’t make it to the 2023 regular season, as the Colts released him as part of an August 29 roster reduction.

The Chiefs swept in and immediately, the next day, claimed Rush off of waivers. But two weeks later, the Chiefs waived Rush just as the Colts had. The Chiefs then brought back Rush, signing him to their practice squad. But the Steelers thought they would snatch Rush from the Chiefs, signing Rush to their active roster in October.

So Rush has seen NFL action in three games with the Steelers in 2023 and then two games in 2024. The Chiefs tried again on Rush, signing him this past February. However, Rush was a training camp cut in August, then signed by the Browns, released two weeks later, and finally signed by the Commanders to their practice squad on August 28.

Therefore, this could be his first action for the Commanders, should Rush be active, on Sunday.
