The Green Bay Packers won the opening coin toss and deferred to bring out Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos offense to start the game.
Back-to-back runs for RJ Harvey netted nine yards to bring up third and a short one for Denver on their opening possessions. After a timeout, Nix would sneak it forward for the first down.
Nix’s first throw of the game came on the next play to Marvin Mims Jr. over the middle for a quick five yard gain, then he found Courtland Sutton outside for another four yards to bring up another third and short one. Harvey would plow forward for the first down, but Micah Parsons would force the fumble into the arms of a Packers defender.
With the ball near midfield, Jordan Love and the Packers offense worked with a short field after the turnover. The Broncos defense would force them into a quick fourth and one where the Packers would go for it. Love ran outside and dove for the first down marker and barely picked it up.
Talanoa Hufanga came up big on the next third down and one with a two-yard tackle for a loss. He took his blocked right into Josh Jacobs and tackled them both.
Brandon McManus would come and boot a 53-yard field goal to put the Packers up first.
After a nice kickoff return from Marvin Mims Jr., the Broncos began their next possession at their own 42-yard line. They wouldn’t do anything with that good field position as they’d go a quick three-and-out and punt it right back to the Packers.
Backed up on their own three yard line, the Packers went to the ground on first down and then Hufanga fell on second down leaving the tight end wide open for a 30 yard gain to get the Packers next drive rolling. Love would carve up the Broncos defense as the first quarter wound down. They’d face a second down in the red zone to start the second quarter.
