The Buffalo Bills (10-4) have been trailing the New England Patriots (11-3) for the entirety of the 2025 NFL season as the Patriots have been playing line one of the best teams in the league. Sunday’s matchup between the two AFC East rivals carried more significance than just a regular division game since Buffalo had a chance to catch up in the race for the playoff spot.
The Bills beat the Patriots 35-31 despite beginning the game with a 24-7 deficit thanks to how well quarterback Drake Maye and New England were moving the ball down the field.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen had one of his better games of the season as he made plenty of big plays happen through the air and on the ground as Buffalo mounted a sizable comeback against a formidable opponent.
Buffalo running back James Cook also continued his excellent season as he seems to be the other player that can make something happen no matter the circumstances, similar to how Allen functions for the team.
With the Bills defense stepping up to allow just seven points from the Patriots in the second half, here is Bills Wire’s stock report for Buffalo following Sunday’s win in New England:
Stock Up: QB Josh Allen
Allen having a great performance is not a surprise at this point in his career, but what he is doing for the Bills on a game-by-game basis is one of the reasons he won the MVP award last season. Allen completed 19 of his 28 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns while also running the ball 11 times for 48 yards, including a big run of 20 yards as he broke out of the pocket.
Stock Down: WR Brandin Cooks
In all fairness, Cooks was a midseason acquisition as the Bills were looking to bolster the wide-receiver room outside of Khalil Shakir, but the veteran has been unable to fill that role. Cooks did not catch any of his three targets and while he hasn’t been himself for the past few years, Buffalo is hoping that this isn’t a repeat of the Amari Cooper situation.
Stock Up: LB Matt Milano
Milano is a few years removed from being considered one of the best linebackers in the NFL, but Sunday’s win at the Patriots reminded Bills fans of who he used to be, in a great way. Milano was all over the field as he racked up 10 tackles (nine solo), two sacks, and two tackles for losses as he provided the kind of linebacker play that could bolster Buffalo’s defense even further.
Stock Down: DE Joey Bosa
Bosa is probably closer to the end of his career than how he was in the beginning of his career, but the Bills had to be hoping that he would provide more than what he has given the team this season. Bosa did not earn so much as one tackle and while he did have one pass deflection and one quarterback hit, his impact ended there and that has to be disappointing.
Stock Up: RB James Cook
Not much more can be said about how good Cook has been this season, but it’s always good to talk about his impact, especially with how concentrated the offense is at this point. Cook not only ran the ball 22 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns, he also 2-of-3 targets for four yards and one touchdown, continuing his impact on the ground and through the air.
Stock Down: WR Keon Coleman
At this point, it seems that Coleman is more of a non-factor within the offensive scheme than he is a critical member of the passing corps, especially when he’s active for the game. Coleman didn’t register a single target and for a player that was taken with a second-round pick in the draft just last season, this entire season has been a disappointing one for the young receiver.
