The Washington Commanders have decided to shut down quarterback Jayden Daniels for the rest of the season.

Head coach Dan Quinn announced the decision to reporters on Monday, calling the decision “part medical, part team.” With Washington out of the playoff picture, backup Marcus Mariota is scheduled to start for the final three games of the season, including a Christmas matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

He has not played since.

Mariota completed the 31-0 loss to the Vikings, then started in Sunday’s 29-21 win over the New York Giants. Washington is 4-10 and has been eliminated from the playoffs.
