The New York Jets and Steve Wilks are no more.

Less than a day after head coach Aaron Glenn showed support to the defensive coordinator, Glenn announced Wilks has been fired on Monday.

On day prior, New York (3-11) was blown out 48-20 by the Jacksonville Jaguars (10-4) in embarrassing fashion for the team’s defense in Week 15.

In a corresponding move, defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Chris Harris was named the interim coordinator.

“Listen, I just thought that from last week going to this week, the improvement wasn’t there, and I thought it was time to make a change,” Glenn said.

From 2022 to 2024, the Jets ranked in the top four in points allowed on defense. New York are 30th in scoring, 20th in yards allowed and 28th in EPA in 2025.

The Jets also only have two takeaways and no interceptions. The 14 games without a pick has now tied the NFL record for most games without one.
