On Sunday night some Cowboys fans were briefly distracted during the broadcast of Dallas’ game against the Vikings when the team’s executive vice president and co-owner Stephen Jones was shown in the Jones executive suite at AT&T Stadium speaking into a walkie-talkie.

Speculation (and jokes) began immediately on who Jones could be talking to, ranging from Jones having a direct line down to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, or perhaps to a nearby concession stand at AT&T Stadium.

Jones made his weekly visit on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) on Monday and was asked about the brief moment, and who he was chatting with on the other end of the walkie-talkie.

As it turns out? It’s a rather predictable answer.

“We have updates from around the stadium, in terms of anything that’s really important that’s going on,” Jones explained. “But we certainly get injury updates from the press box. When we have a guy like Javonte [Williams], who, you know, was going through concussion protocol, we get those updates from the press box.”

For those who have never been in a press box at a major sporting event: Most have a PA system exclusive to the press box which alerts the media of injury updates, roster/lineup changes, attendance, potential milestones or broken records and more.

It was a busy night on that front for the Joneses, as the Cowboys saw Williams, fullback Hunter Luepke and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams all go down with an injury at different points in the game.

Apparently Jones was just keeping posted. But it still made for some in-game fun on social media.
