In the Philadelphia Eagles’ 22-19 loss in Overtime on Monday Night Football, Quarterback Jalen Hurts had arguably the worst game of his six-year career versus the Los Angeles Chargers.

Less than a year since winning Super Bowl 59 MVP Award, Hurts threw four interceptions and had the fourth-worst Passer Rating (31.2) in his 80 career NFL starts. In Philadelphia’s five games after the Bye Week, the offense had been averaging just 16.2 Points Per Game, and the Eagles’ starting Quarterback had eight total turnovers (5 Interceptions, 3 Fumbles Lost).

That rough stretch of games led some people to question if the Eagles should bench their starting Quarterback. National NFL Insiders started to circulate speculation that Philadelphia might consider a future without Jalen Hurts at Quarterback.

But the players in the Eagles’ locker room continued to believe in and support the Quarterback with the fourth-most wins in Franchise History (55). Jalen Hurts is the only Eagles Quarterback to start in two Super Bowls, and in NFL Week 15, he added another historic accomplishment to his football resume.

Hurts Joins Exclusive Club in Philadelphia’s 31-0 victory over the Raiders

On Sunday afternoon, the fans at Lincoln Financial Field got to witness a unique statistical output from Philadelphia’s Franchise Quarterback:

According to NFL stats and Information, Jalen Hurts completed 12 of 15 pass attempts, accumulating 175 Passing Yards, and three passing touchdowns. The 27-year old Quarterback had 154.9 passer rating, the second-highest in a single game in his NFL career.

Hurts is the sixth quarterback in NFL history with a completion percentage of 80 percent or higher, three or more touchdown passes, and a passer rating of 150 or higher in multiple games within a single season. Here are the other QBs to have this unique statistical accomplishment:

*Ben Roethlisberger (2007)
*Kirk Cousins (2015)
*Drew Brees (2018)
*Lamar Jackson (2019 and 2024)
*Jared Goff (2025)

The other game that Jalen Hurts pulled off this rare statistical line is October 19th, when the Eagles won against the Vikings in Minnesota. The Eagles quarterback had the best Passer Rating (158.3) of his NFL career in that game.

So what do you do with a Quarterback who has played his best and worst games of his career in the same season?

The debate around Jalen Hurts gets amplified by both sides with each game he plays. Less than six days after some people called for him to be benched, he has the second-best performance of the 2025 NFL season.

Anyone who was calling for Jalen Hurts to be benched was either being intellectually dishonest or was doing so to rile people up for debate. And most of the Anti-Hurts sentiment is by people who love to load up their arguments with subjectivity and sports absolutes.

The reality is that Jalen Hurts is both a Super Bowl Championship Quarterback and not an elite passer. But football history is full of men who were not elite arm talent who won championships because they had other intangibles (Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, etc) while some of the NFL’s greatest passer never won any Super Bowl Championships (Dan Marino, Warren Moon, etc).

Yes, he doesn’t have the same arm talent as Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert, but Jalen Hurts has more career regular-season and postseason wins than both of those men. But what is more important: winning championships or passing yards?  Did you know that Hurts is not far behind his NFL Draft Classmates in the number of games played with 100+ Passer Rating?

-Justin Herbert: 42 games
-Joe Burrow: 37 games
-Jalen Hurts: 36 games

While Herbert has never won a playoff game, Hurts has won 6 in 9 postseason games played. Burrow has only reached the postseason twice, but Hurts has four straight postseason appearances.

All NFL fans know that Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are two of the best Quarterbacks in football, winners of MVP Awards in recent years. But while both elite QBs have two more years playing in the NFL compared to Jalen Hurts, neither Allen or Jackson have reach a Super Bowl.

Hurts is on an exclusive list of NFL Quarterbacks who have started multiple Super Bowls in their careers. Only 22 men have started multiple Super Bowls, a list that includes 13 Hall of Famers, one future Hall of Famer (Tom Brady), and three Quarterbacks who many believe could be enshrined in Canton, Ohio in the future (Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger, and Eli Manning).

*John Elway had five seasons, Kurt Warner has three seasons, and Peyton Manning has nine seasons with 15 or more interceptions (Hurts has one)
*Troy Aikman only had one season with 22 or more Touchdown Passes (Hurts has three)
*Hurts is tied with Lamar Jackson for the ninth-most Postseason Passing Touchdowns among active players (10), more than Joe Burrow and Jared Goff (each with 9). Only two active Quarterbacks have more passing touchdowns who have started multiple Super Bowls: Patrick Mahomes and Russell Wilson. There are three players with more postseason TD Passes who have NEVER started a Super Bowl: Josh Allen (25), Dak Prescott (14), and Baker Mayfield (12).

Jalen Hurts is not a perfect Quarterback and does deserve some criticism for his decision-making as a passer, and the 27-year-old Quarterback does seem aware that he needs to improve in certain areas as an NFL QB.

But if winning is the most important criterion for a Quarterback in the National Football League, the Eagles Quarterback has led his team to two Super Bowl appearances, and has won 68.75 percent of his NFL starts. So let’s end these ignorant conversations about him as Philadelphia’s starting QB until he shows real regression, not just a four-week stretch of struggles.
