The Detroit Lions are “hopeful” that one of their starting cornerbacks will be available for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday he won’t have much of a concrete update on Amik Robertson until the team returns to practice Wednesday.
With 4:54 left in a 41-34 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Robertson injured his hand while attempting to punch the ball out on a touchdown reception by Rams tight end Colby Parkinson. Robertson met Parkinson at the goal line and tried to make the play, but instead injured his hand and did not return to the game.
“Had a hand injury … we’ll see where it’s at. I’m hopeful that he’ll be able to go (against Pittsburgh). I’m hopeful,” Campbell said. “But there again, we’ll know more probably the next couple of days.”
Campbell said Robertson had an MRI done and the injury “could affect him a little bit,” if he does end up playing at Ford Field against the Steelers.
“But I think we’d like to believe that he’s gonna have a chance to play here. But until we get through practice, we won’t entirely know,” Campbell said.
Robertson has had a tough stretch since the bye week and leads all NFL cornerbacks in yards allowed since Week 12. But he’s one of just two remaining starters in Detroit’s injury-stricken secondary, so the Lions could really use him as they prepare to try to run the table over their last three games.
