Entering Week 16, here is what Shane Steichen had to say about Colts’ QB Anthony Richardson’s injury.
(This story was updated to add new information.)
With three weeks left in the regular season for the Indianapolis Colts, Anthony Richardson may be nearing his return.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Richardson has been medically cleared after suffering an orbital fracture on Oct. 12th. “The hope,” as Zenitz put it, is for Richardson to be back practicing “in the near future.”
The injury occurred in warmups prior to the Arizona game, when a pole that was attached to a stretch band snapped and impacted Richardson around his eye.
Shane Steichen said on Monday that Richardson has been cleared from an eye standpoint, but added that Richardson has to be worked back physically before being cleared to practice.
Steichen was noncommittal when it came to whether or not Richardson would be practicing this week.
“He just got back into physical activity,” Steichen said. “We’ll see how that goes.”
Richardson is still currently on injured reserve. He was spotted at practice last week by media members in attendance.
If Richardson does return to practice at some point, it remains to be seen whether or not he gets any in-game snaps during the final weeks of the season.
Phillip Rivers provided the offense with stability in Seattle, although this unit lacked big-play abilities.
The Colts will return to the practice field later this week as they begin preparing for their Monday night matchup with San Francisco.
