For the first time since the 2014 season, the Kansas City Chiefs won’t be in the playoffs.

On Sunday, the Chiefs had their playoff hopes crushed by the Los Angeles Chargers. It was a deflating loss for the franchise in more ways than one. Not only did they drop to 6-8 on the season, they lost Patrick Mahomes to a season-ending ACL injury. Although he underwent successful surgery, there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season.

Tavia Hunt, the wife of Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt, witnessed Sunday’s heartbreaking loss at Arrowhead Stadium. She shared her thoughts about the game on Instagram shortly after it went final.

“Today didn’t end the way we hoped,” Hunt wrote. “After a season full of effort and heart, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade stings—and it’s okay to feel that disappointment.”

Despite this past weekend’s disappointing result, Hunt expressed gratitude for this year’s squad.

“Football teaches us a lot about perseverance, humility, and resilience. Not every game ends in a win, and following Jesus never comes with a promise of ease or comfort. But it does come with the promise that God is at work—faithfully and purposefully—even in seasons that hurt. Our trust isn’t in outcomes, but in a God who remains steady when everything else feels uncertain,” she continued. “Life is bigger than football, even when football means so much. Our ultimate hope isn’t found in a playoff berth or a trophy—it’s anchored in eternity. Grateful for this team, this community, and the journey—through every high and every hard.”

Who is Tavia Hunt?

Tavis was born and raised in Kansas City, so her bond with the Chiefs was intact well before she got married to Clark in 1993. In fact, she was once named Miss Missouri Teen USA.

“I feel I have a special bond to Chiefs Kingdom,” she told local Kansas City outlet KSHB. “Kansas City is such a special city, and it truly has my heart.”

Speaking of her marriage, Tavia met Clark shortly after she graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. They currently share three children together, Ava, Gracie and Knobel.

There’s no question the Chiefs have thrived under the Hunt family’s leadership, winning three Super Bowl titles since 2019.
