Jawhar Jordan isn’t going anywhere.
According to the Houston Texans‘ transaction list, Jordan was promoted to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Tuesday following his breakout performance against the Arizona Cardinals.
Filling in for Woody Marks during the second half of his NFL debut, Jordan rushed for 101 yards on 15 carries in a 40-20 win, becoming the first running back to rush for over 100 yards this season.
“Jawhar did an outstanding job for us,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said following Sunday’s game. “For the young man to come in and for his first game to have a debut like he had. He ran the ball very well: efficient. He showed the explosiveness and the speed that he has and that we’ve seen in practice, while he’s been on the practice squad for us.”
A former sixth-round pick, Jordan spent most of the past two seasons on the Texans’ practice squad. He was waived last year during the roster cutdown before being signed to the practice squad. This past season, Jordan was a part of the final roster cutdowns before being signed to the practice squad in August.
During the third quarter, Jordan delivered the longest run of the season on a 50-yard scamper, catching a pitch from quarterback C.J. Stroud before cutting back across the field and into Arizona’s red zone.
“Jawhar is my dog, somebody who I got to see come in and put in work and been making plays for a long time at practice, in camp, preseason games,” Stroud said. “He gets a shot and I thought he took full advantage. I’m just super proud of him and his ability to make cuts and set up blocks.
Entering Week 16, the Texans could be down both Marks and Nick Chubb. Having Jordan continue playing could alleviate pressure on Houston’s ground game in a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. Should he improve, it could once again prove to be the x-factor in helping the Texans take the next jump into AFC contention.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT.
