Texas A&M star running back Le’Veon Moss is expected to be questionable for the Aggies’ College Football Playoff First Round game against Miami this Saturday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Wednesday night.

Moss missed the final six games of the season with an ankle injury, but has returned to practice ahead of A&M’s first ever appearance in the CFP. In six games this season, the 2024 SEC All-Second Team selection rushed for 389 yards and six touchdowns on 70 carries.

Without Moss on the field, Texas A&M won five of its final six games to finish with an 11-1 record (lone loss came at Texas). In his absence, redshirt sophomore Reuben Owens has blossomed into one of the most exciting young players in the SEC. Owens recorded 618 yards and five touchdowns on 112 carries, good enough to lead the team in rushing.

During his pre-Miami media opportunity on Monday, A&M head coach Mike Elko claimed that the program was in ‘wait-and-see’ mode in regard to Moss’ availability.

“We’re kind of in wait-and-see mode in that one,” Elko said. “So, we’ll see where that goes.”

Mike Elko said he was confident in a Moss return if A&M made CFP

Moss’ best game of the season came against Auburn on Sept. 27. In the Aggies’ 16-10 win, the Walker, LA native rushed for 139 yards and one score. Moss was on his way to having another big game against Florida two weeks later before he suffered the untimely injury. He was given five rushing attempts, which he took for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Moss has been rehabbing ever since, and Elko hinted last month that he had progressing as expected.

“The timeline is still exactly what we anticipated from the beginning,” Elko said on Nov. 3. “It’s still too early to tell whether that’s going to move or not. So, you know, we’re hopeful that, by the end of the regular season, we’ll have a chance to get him back out there. Certainly, we feel very confident for anything beyond the end of the regular season, if that presents itself.”

Having Moss back in time for the Miami game would be massive for Texas A&M. The Hurricanes allowed just 86.8 rush yards per game this season, which is the best mark in the ACC and the 7th best mark in all of college football. The Aggies and Canes will clash on Saturday at 12:00 PM EST in College Station.
