Colby Parkinson is in his second season with the Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams made their first selection of the 2025 NFL Draft in the second round after trading out of the first and giving their pick to the Atlanta Falcons.

With the 46th overall pick, the Rams made a quite shocking selection, using it on a position group on offense that was already packed. Los Angeles selected Terrance Ferguson from the University of Oregon to become the team’s fourth player at that spot.

This season, the Rams are known to run the 13-man personnel (1 running back and 3 tight ends on the field) and have allowed the offense to be dynamic in more ways than one. The tight end room has accounted for 10 of Matthew Stafford‘s 37 passing touchdowns this season and will be key to the Rams’ playoff run.

While things are looking positive for the tight ends, Ferguson has not been used much this season, due to being at the bottom of the position as a rookie. But one of his teammates offers praise for Ferg even though he hasn’t gotten an opportunity to shine.

Colby Parkinson, who is on track to have his best season in almost every category with the Rams this season, has excelled in the last few weeks.

He has gotten the most targets, catches and touchdowns of the four players in the tight end room (excluding Tyler Higbee, who is on injured reserve).

Parkinson offered some praise for his rookie teammate and how Terrance Ferguson has excelled in his limited role so far.

“He’s proven that he’s more than just a route runner,” Parkinson said of his teammate on Rams Revealed. “He is willing and able to block, and he does it at a high level. He’s a true NFL tight end.”

“Proud of the way that he’s come in and gone to work. He’s never put himself in a box like some receiving tight ends can do. He’s just one of the guys. He’s done a great job and as have we all of taking on this new role.”

Ferguson hasn’t produced much this season, but he is a deep field threat. He has registered only 6 catches, but each of those completions was for 24 yards each for 144 total and a single TD catch.

Terrance Ferguson hasn’t been able to contribute as much as he and the coaching staff would have liked this season, but he will still have a greater role in the future.

Rams head coach Sean McVay mentioned that the rookie tight end will get more opportunities as the season continues.

“You just never know throughout the course of a season, guys are going to get their opportunities and usually it’s going to be earned and sometimes it organically works itself out. He’s a guy that’s stayed humble, just worked in the background. There was never a loss of confidence,” McVay said, via Rams Wire.

“I think the best is yet to come. He’s got an incredibly bright future and more importantly, I really love the character of the human being.”

Ferguson is just 22 years old and has the best ahead of him and learning under Sean McVay will do great work for his development.
