Regardless of what happens in the remainder of the 2025 season, the Buffalo Bills need to address their receiving corps in 2026. Buffalo currently has one of the most potent offenses in the entire NFL. In fact, they have scored the most total points among all AFC teams this campaign. Despite this, the Bills still do not have a true number one wide receiver.

The best way that Buffalo can address the glaring need is to trade for a receiver in the upcoming offseason. Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown has been linked with a possible move up to Western New York. Nevertheless, another option for Bills GM Brandon Beane could be Chicago Bears star D.J. Moore.

Moore could very well become surplus in 2026 due to the emergence of Rome Odunze. The second-year wideout currently leads the Bears in receiving yards, despite featuring in just 12 games. Chicago also has two solid pass-catching tight ends in Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. Luther Burden III gives Ben Johnson’s impressive offense a quality threat in the slot as well.

D.J. Moore Would Finally Give the Buffalo Bills a Real Threat Down the Field

GettyD.J. Moore currently has more touchdowns this season than any Bills wide receiver.

Although the Bears may be open to letting Moore go, the Bills could certainly use him in their offense. Slot receiver Khalil Shakir and tight end Dalton Kincaid give reigning MVP Josh Allen good options in the air. There is, however, a fairly significant falloff in receiver productivity beyond the dynamic duo.

Keon Coleman was expected to be the new number one WR after the Bills dealt Stefon Diggs in 2024. The youngster has yet to fulfill his potential, though, and his days in Buffalo may even be numbered. Coleman has just 355 total receiving yards in 2025 and was a healthy scratch twice in November.

Potentially acquiring Moore would give Allen a much more serious deep threat. The current Bears star is averaging 13.9 yards per catch in 2025. For context, Kincaid’s average in this category is 14.5 yards, but Shakir is at 10.5, and Coleman is even lower with 9.9. Moore has also grabbed five touchdowns so far this season, a figure that no current Bills wide receiver has at the moment.

Bills May Have Reservations over Moore’s Recent Output

One possible concern for Buffalo is the fact that Moore’s productivity has declined in recent seasons. After collecting 1,364 receiving yards in 2023, he followed up with 966 yards the next year. As of now, Moore has 567 total yards through the air with three games remaining in the regular season.

On top of this, the veteran is heading into a new-and-improved contract in 2026. According to Spotrac.com, Moore will carry a cap hit of $28.5 million in each of the next three seasons. His salary will then fall slightly to $24.5 million in his final year under contract in 2029.

Despite these potential issues, the Bills cannot go another season without a real WR1. Allen fully deserves to have multiple skillful options to target down the field. Moore may very well become one of the better options for Beane in 2026. Along with his talent, the veteran has also remained healthy throughout his career. He has not missed an NFL game since 2020.
