Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott “absolutely” wants to remain in the lineup for the remainder of the season even though his team’s playoff chances are slim heading into the final three weeks.
Dallas’ only path to the playoffs is through the NFC East. The Cowboys need to win their last three games, and the Eagles need to lose their final three matchups in order for Dallas to win the division.
It’s possible the Eagles can clinch the NFC East before Dallas even plays the game, as Philadelphia visits the Washington Commanders on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. A win there knocks Dallas out of playoff contention.
Dallas doesn’t play again until Sunday, when the Los Angeles Chargers come to town. The Cowboys then visit the Washington Commanders on Christmas Day before hitting the road against the New York Giants on Jan. 4.
It appears Prescott will play in all three games regardless of the Cowboys’ playoff chances.
Dallas has a 6-7-1 record, but that’s not because of Prescott and the offense, which have guided the Cowboys to 29.1 points per game (fourth-most in the NFL).
Prescott has enjoyed a great individual season, completing 68.4 percent of his passes for an NFL-high 3,931 yards and 26 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 140 yards and two scores.
It’s a great comeback year for Prescott, who underwent season-ending surgery on an injured hamstring and missed the final nine weeks of the 2024 campaign.
Based on his comments, he doesn’t take his availability for granted. Prescott has also had to miss a long stretch before after missing the final 11 games of the 2020 season due to a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle suffered in Week 5 against the New York Giants.
He’s been healthy this year, thankfully, and has returned to a form that could very well land him his fourth Pro Bowl appearance.
Prescott and the Cowboys will now look to get back to .500 when they host L.A. on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
