The 49ers control their own destiny to grab the NFC’s No. 1 playoff seed after the Seattle Seahawks’ 38-37 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday at Lumen Field.

Like the 49ers, the Seahawks also will determine their own path, however, for not only the conference’s top spot, but the NFC West title. With a Week 18 matchup looming between the two division foes, the 49ers now can secure the No. 1 seed and take the division if they win out over their final three regular-season games.

Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold almost blew it for Seattle and his former team Thursday but pulled it off in the end to defeat Matthew Stafford and Co. The former 49ers backup was picked off twice in the second half — once in the third quarter and again in the fourth — before the Seahawks stormed back from a 16-point deficit, tying the game 30-30 with just over six minutes left on an odd two-point conversion.

The Seahawks pulled off another two-point conversion in OT for the win, giving themselves and the 49ers a chance to accomplish the unthinkable and steal the top seed from the Rams.

If San Francisco can defeat the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears and then its longtime rivals to end the regular season in Week 18 at Levi’s Stadium, the division — and conference — is theirs.
