Since the 2020 season, there has been a huge debate on who is the better quarterback; Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes. They are two of the best to ever play the position and the game and we are extremely lucky to see them in their primes. Sure, the NFL also has players like Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Justin Herbert. Not to mention, you have up-and-coming quarterbacks like Bo Nix, Caleb Williams, and Drake Maye.
However, this league has two leaders in Allen and Mahomes, and it’s very hard to disagree with that. The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs have created a rivalry that every NFL fan loves to watch.
As we all know, the Bills have had the Chiefs’ number in the regular season since 2021. Buffalo hasn’t lost to them in October/November. However, it’s been Kansas City that has been getting the last laugh against Buffalo in the playoffs. In four out of the last five playoff matchups, Mahomes and the Chiefs are the ones celebrating a win while Allen and the Bills walk out in defeat.
This coming postseason, the Chiefs are already eliminated from playoff contention and they will finish out the season without Mahomes, who tore his ACL last Sunday against the Chargers. As for Allen and the Bills, they will most likely be playing football in January and still have a shot at winning the AFC East.
Colin Cowherd says the truth about the Josh Allen-Patrick Mahomes comparison
Earlier today, Colin Cowherd, host of “The Herd” gave a take that is quite bold, but it is the truth whether fans want to admit it or not. Cowherd stated “The last 2 years, Mahomes is not even in Josh’s league. It ain’t close.”
Cowherd did a breakdown between Allen and Mahomes of their second-half performances, as well as overtimes and the stats show just how better Allen is. Allen has a higher completion percentage, better total touchdown-to-interception ratio, and a passer rating that is miles better than Mahomes.

Sure, Mahomes has been the one that has had more success from a team perspective. However, Allen has been the better player all around. He’s more dynamic and has carried a Bills team that has not been really supportive of him. As for Mahomes, he’s had the pleasure of playing with a future Hall of Fame tight end in Travis Kelce, and has had a defense that has been one of the best under Steve Spagnuolo.
Allen has had to overcome a lot for the Bills. He has taken the Bills far every single season, but Mahomes has had the better supporting cast. However, we know that Allen is a better quarterback than Mahomes.
