A former Carolina Panthers quarterback has found a new home.

As announced on Thursday, Hendon Hooker has signed with the New York Jets‘ practice squad. The 27-year-old Greensboro, N.C. native was a member of the Panthers’ practice squad from late August until early November.

Hooker, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year at the University of Tennessee in 2022, was a third-round selection of the Detroit Lions in 2023. After missing his rookie campaign due to an ACL injury, he appeared in three games in 2024—where he completed six of his nine passing attempts for 62 yards.

Detroit would waive Hooker on Aug. 25 during their initial roster cutdown. He’d join Carolina’s practice squad two days later.

Before signing with the Jets, Hooker was one of two former Panthers quarterbacks to work out for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday. He was brought in along with Jack Plummer, whom Carolina signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
