FRISCO — Cowboys officials are trying to determine if starting cornerback DaRon Bland needs surgery on his left foot, a person with knowledge of his health told The Dallas Morning News. Another person with knowledge of Bland’s thinking said he’s seeking a second opinion on if he needs surgery.
It isn’t known how Bland suffered the injury, but he missed the second and third games of the season with a foot issue.
Bland underwent surgery on his left foot last season, which caused him to miss the first ten games. Bland returned and played in seven games.
This season, Bland played in 12 games, recording one interception and six pass breakups.

In August, Bland signed a four-year, $90 million deal that runs through the 2029 season.
After earning his only All-Pro and Pro Bowl berth in 2023, where he set a NFL record with five interception returns for touchdowns and led the league with nine picks, health has become a problem.
He suffered a foot injury in the late stages of training camp in 2024 but was able to return. He had some setbacks during his recovery but was still able to play.
Bland didn’t have any problems in 2025, even starting the season opener at Philadelphia.
But he was inactive for games against the New York Giants and Chicago Bears.
He did return in Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers. Bland hasn’t missed a game since but now it’s possible he could miss Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and if surgery is needed, his season would end.
The Cowboys have had health problems at the cornerback position all year, from Trevon Diggs (knee and concussion), Shavon Revel (knee), Caelen Carson (knee) and Josh Butler (knee). Revel and Carson are currently on the active roster.
Diggs and Butler are in the return-to-practice phase of their recoveries. If the Cowboys don’t activate Diggs from the 21-day return to practice window on Saturday, he will be out for the rest of the year.
Butler was just placed on the 21-day return to practice window this week.
