As we all come down from the high of arguably the biggest win for the Seattle Seahawks in the post LOB era, an incredible football weekend continues with the second edition of the 12 team College Football Playoff.

While the Seahawks are preparing to go for their first division title since 2020 and their first top overall seed clinch since 2014, the scouting department is hard at work preparing for the NFL Draft.

Although this playoff is drawing more frustration than excitement due to the teams that are in (or not in), there’s still some fascinating players to keep an eye on this week as some of the best players will be taking the field in the biggest games of their lives.

Tonight, we have arguably the most fascinating game of the first round, as the No. 8 seed Oklahoma Sooners welcome the No. 9 seed Alabama Crimson Tide to Norman, Oklahoma. This epic blue blood battle will have strong northwest ties as both the Sooners and Tide have connections to both Washington schools.

Here’s a breakdown of the top prospects I’ll be looking at for the Seahawks from tonight’s battle for the right to go to the Rose Bowl.

Kadyn Proctor, OT – A consensus All-American at left tackle this season, Proctor has mostly lived up to the lofty expectations as a first round lock in the upcoming draft. A monster at 6-6 and over 350 lbs, Proctor’s ceiling is a franchise altering guard, but he could be a starting right tackle in the NFL.

I’d guess Seattle would have to trade up into the teens to get their hands on Proctor, but he’d be an immediate upgrade over Anthony Bradford.

LT Overton, Edge – A former five-star prospect, Overton is the classic case of a player that has all the tools and measurables to be a star as a power edge rusher who dominates in rush defense, but the stats don’t always show the production.

When I watch Overton’s tape, I see a similar comp to Derick Hall of the Seahawks. Just sheer power and talent that I’d love to see in the hands of Mike Macdonald. I think Overton is a real contender for the Seahawks first round pick.

Parker Brailsford, Center – In my opinion, Brailsford is one of the best center prospects in this draft class. A former star at Washington, he followed Kalen Deboer to Alabama, he’s been a consistent presence despite working with a different quarterback for the past three seasons.

I think the Seahawks are in decent shape with Jalen Sundell and Olu Oluwatimi, but you can make a case that Brailsford would be an upgrade.

Jaeden Roberts, Guard – Another talented offensive lineman, this truly is the strength of the Tide’s team. Roberts is yet another day two prospect who’s been a three year starter for Alabama at guard. This will be his second appearance in the CFP.

R Mason Thomas, Edge – If the Seahawks don’t trade their first round pick for a star edge rusher this spring (hey Maxx), Thomas is my early favorite pick for the Seattle Seahawks.

R Mason Thomas is the classic speed rusher sack artist. He’s not an every down lineman, and he probably will never be a plus player against the run, but I’m not sure there’s a better sack artist in this class than R Mason.

The comps to former Sooner and star edge rusher Nik Bonitto are high praise, but the similarities are real.

Isaiah Sategna III, Wide Receiver – As we have seen, the Seahawks are a different team when Rashid Shaheed is involved. He’s a massive priority to retain this offseason. Even if he is re-signed, I still think Seattle should look at more options at wide receiver, and Sategna is an intriguing option.

The Sooners have arguably the best defense in the college, but their offense has been an absolute mess since former Coug John Mateer had his hand surgery, derailing his draft prospects for this season. When they have made a big play, it’s been an explosion deep ball or catch and run by Sategna.

Sategna may be one of the fastest wide receiver prospects in this class, and his breakaway speed in the SEC bodes well for the NFL game. If Oklahoma is going to score enough points to get to the Rose Bowl, Sategna probably has to break one or two for scores. I really like him as a round three prospect.

Samuel Omosigho, Linebacker – Drake Thomas has been one of the best underrated storylines of the season, and I think he overall played well on Thursday, but the Seahawks desperately need more depth at linebacker. The Sooners have been elite lately at developing talented linebackers, and I think Omosigho is next in line.

On a defense that will have plenty of future NFL players, stats don’t always stand out due to depth, but that hasn’t stopped Omosigho from totaling nearly 50 tackles and 2.5 sacks, while also being an elite special teamer.

Omosigho strikes me as a potential day three steal type of player, but his athleticism is elite, and he could test himself out of a comfortable range for the Seahawks.

Alabama vs. Oklahoma airs on ABC and ESPN at 5 pm PT on Friday, Dec. 19.
