The rush before the holiday break isn’t just to get gifts for loved ones; it’s to get new Kentucky football coaches. Another one has been added to the fold on Friday morning.
Will Stein announced that Josh Christian-Young will be the next safeties coach at Kentucky. Christian-Young is making the move to Lexington after two years at Houston.
“We are thrilled to welcome Josh Christian-Young to Lexington as our new safeties coach,” Stein said. “Houston’s secondary has played physical, disciplined football and they have been productive. That’s exactly the standard we want at Kentucky.”
Christian-Young has spent a significant amount of time coaching with Willie Fritz. This year, they helped Houston finish with a 9-3 record, the program’s first winning season in Big 12 play. They are set to take on LSU in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 at 9:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity,” Christian-Young said. “Coach Stein is one of the rising stars in college football with an elite offensive mind. The chance to work with him while reuniting with Jay Bateman makes this an incredible next step. I can’t wait to get started.”
Prior to the move to Houston, Christian-Young coached alongside Fritz for four years at Tulane. The college football coaching veteran connected with Bateman, the new Kentucky defensive coordinator, during a five-year run on Jeff Monken‘s staff at Army West Point.
There have been three Kentucky coaching announcements in the last 24 hours, and more will likely come before we get the weekend rolling. Stay tuned.
